What is "Kafala"?

Kafala is the process in Islam of taking legal parental guardianship by bringing an orphan permanently into your home and raising them as part of your family.

In some Islamic countries, including Egypt, the term ‘Kafala’ of Islamic law describes a situation similar to adoption, but not necessarily with the transference of inheritance rights or the change of the child’s full name.
